It is with profound sadness that the family of William F. Burns announces his passing on May 24, 2024. He is now reunited with Dolores, his beloved wife of 54 years.
Born in Providence, he was the son of William and Madeline (Linehan) Burns. He was the loving father of Donna (Tom) Tucciarone, Raymond (Judy) Burns and Joseph (Lynn) Burns. He was the brother in law of Loretta Burns-Hebert, Raymond DiMeo and Janice DiMeo. He was the proud Papa to Daniel, Sarah, Harrison and Ronan. He was predeceased in death by his brother Joseph E. Burns.
A graduate of LaSalle Academy, he was awarded a full scholarship to Notre Dame University. He attended the university briefly, but financial constraints forced him to decline the scholarship and he returned home.
He was a proud Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951-1955. During his time in the Air Force, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, as well as the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at Gorham Manufacturing, and BIF. When BIF left Rhode Island, Bill reinvented himself at the age of 58 as a Pharmacy Technician, working for Rhode Island Hospital for 2 years and Women and Infants Hospital for over 20 years until his retirement. His time spent working in the pharmacy at Women and Infants brought wonderful friendships, great stories and lots of laughs. A special thank you to Bill Johnston for the many calls, and social visits over the years.
Bills greatest accomplishment was his family. He was always quick to tell us how lucky he was that he found Dolores, his one and only true love. He was proud that each of his children received college educations. He loved being a Papa.
His funeral will be held Thursday, May 30th at 8:45 a.m. from “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Garden Hills Drive, Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITATION will be held Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at “WOODLAWN”.
