Walter Hundley

September 21, 1926 ~ May 2, 2021 (age 94)


Age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021, with his family by his side. He was the husband of June C. (Ling) Hundley. Born in Moulmein, Burma (Myanmar) son of Gordon Hundley and Daw Shwe.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and two daughters; Richard Hundley and his wife Debra of Cumberland, RI, Catherine Fabrizi of Warwick, RI, and Janet Prusa and her husband Cary of Manhattan, NY; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Countless cousins, nephews, and nieces. The youngest of 6 siblings Walter was a proud father, grandfather and delighted in the successes of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He left a privileged life behind for the American Dream and emigrated with his family to the United States in 1966. Trained in water resources, Walter designed and built many, many dams and irrigation systems still in use in Burma. After stops in Hawaii, California, Texas, and Providence, he settled in and raised his family in Warwick, RI.
He was a graduate of the elite La Martiniere School in Lucknow, India, where he excelled academically and in track, soccer, and boxing. Many of his sports records still stand. During WWII, he survived the Japanese occupation of Burma by escaping to Dehradun, India. After the war, he returned to Burma and attended Rangoon University for his higher education. After becoming a US citizen, he earned his Masters and United States PE License from URI.
He was a project manager for CE Maguire and was responsible for many construction programs in the cities of Taunton, MA, and Laconia, NH. Until his retirement, he was City Engineer for the City of Warwick.
Golf was a passion and he was a well-known player on courses and tournaments. He especially treasured playing golf with his son and daughter-in-law. He coached youth soccer, was a Scout Master, and a Sunday School Teacher for many years at Calvary Baptist Church in Providence, RI.
