Vincenzo DiTraglia Obituary

Vincenzo "Vinny" DiTraglia , 85, left for his final adventure February 11, 2024. Born in Rome, Italy, but raised in Pontecorvo, Province of Frosinone, Italy, the son of Egidio and Elisa (Ciccone) DiTraglia.

At the age of five, Vinny was a child of war! His hometown of Pontecorvo was destroyed by allied bombing during WW11 given that it was used as a supply route for the German Army that was entrenched in the nearby Monastery at Monte Cassino.

In 1955, Vincenzo was sent to the United States: a sixteen year old, alone and with only a small cardboard suitcase and no English, to make a better life for himself. Arriving in the Olneyville section of Providence, he went to work for his sponsor, a great-uncle, cutting lawns on the East Side of Providence in order to pay back his passage.

Colonial Knife Company became his next employer that Fall as he turned seventeen and he remained with the company until it closed, forty- seven years later. Always ready for a new adventure, he turned to property management and worked at Quaker Valley Condominiums in West Warwick, a job he truly loved, until his retirement twelve years later.

He also volunteered over the years for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Foundation, the Arthritis Foundation and Saint Mary’s Church in Cranston.

Vinny was married to the late Marie (Parrillo) DiTraglia for just shy of twenty-five years. They were both very proud of their two sons: Joseph and John DiTraglia. Marie died in 1985. In 1987, Vincenzo married his surviving wife Michele (Famiano) DiTraglia and gained two stepdaughters: Nicole Famiano and Monique Guenette.

Always the adventurer Vin, now in his fifties, along with a group of good friends, took up both Alpine and cross country skiing, white water rafting, ocean kayaking and of course, he loved his hiking, always searching for mushrooms along the way. He enjoyed making homemade sausage and wine, but his true passion was travel. He traveled extensively in the United States and visited seven countries throughout Europe.

Vinny is survived by his wife, Michele, sons Joseph (Annette) DiTraglia and John (Donna) DiTraglia. Step-daughters Nicole Famiano and Monique (Steven) Guenette. Brother to Domenico (Luisa)DiTraglia,Giovanni( Maria Grazia) DiTraglia and the late Anna DiTraglia of Pontecorvo, Italy. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Anthony Castaldi, Amanda, Courtney and Joseph McDonald, Melissa DiTraglia-Aliotta, Kaitlyn DiTraglia, Stephanie DiTraglia, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews both in this country and in Italy.
