THÉRÈSE LAURA (SÉVIGNY) GRIFFIN

94, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021 at her home in Cranston, RI surrounded by her loving family. Born in Warren, RI, she was the daughter of Alexandre Joseph Sevigny and Rose Emma (Dallaire) Sevigny.  She was the beloved wife of the late William H. Griffin; mother of eight children: Arlene T. Marcotte-Beale (Charles) of MA, Kathryn D. Henry (Stephen) of CA, Paul M. Griffin of Cranston, Susan M. Van Leaven (Larry) of Narragansett, William H. Griffin Jr. of Cranston, Jeanne E. Bragger of CA, Patricia A. Cumbee (William) of Wakefield and Denise M. Griffin of Coventry; grandmother of 12; great-grandmother of 5.

As a student at Bayview Academy, Thérèse played the piano for school events.  After graduating in 1945, she was employed as a Clerk Typist at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service until 1947 when she transferred to the R.I. Division of Personnel.

In her retirement, as a horticultural specialist, Thérèse was President of the Cranston Garden Club, and won many awards for her club including a Tri-Color Award for best flower design arrangement. She contributed to her community by designing, building and maintaining a new garden at the Cranston Public Library. Her many other talents included quilting, crewel, and needlepoint; collecting miniatures for her dollhouse; gardening and oil painting. Thérèse had been an avid reader and fan of PC basketball since the team’s inception. Her happiest moments were those spent with her family whether vacationing in Maine, playing cards or celebrating holidays.  Thérèse was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mark’s Church in Garden City for nearly 50 years.

The family would like to express gratitude to her devoted nurse, April Woods, R.N. of Hope Health Hospice as well as, the most caring and dedicated private healthcare professionals:  Cesarina Sabala, Katia Fortes, and April Hines.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, August 18th at 8:45 a.m. from “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mark Church, burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery Cranston.
