Thomas V. Ryan, 59 of Johnston passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Thursday, March 23, 2023. This just so happened to be Tommy’s Dad’s Birthday. He was the loving husband of Maureen (Ferrante) Ryan for 38 years. Born in Providence and raised in Edgewood, he was a son and sixth child of the late John and Mary (Murphy) Ryan.
Tommy was a loving husband to Maureen and a loving father to his daughter, Nicole. He was also a cherished brother to Michael, Stephen, Maureen, Margy, John, Annmarie and Mark along with their families. He was also a devoted son in law to Antonetta and the late Vincent Ferrante and brother in law to Vinny and Debbie along with their families. Tommy was a friend to all and a pure gentleman.
He was uncle to 16 Nephews and nieces and 16 great nephews and nieces.
Tommy spent the majority of his life in both Cranston and Johnston, but also made childhood memories at family homes in both Providence (Donelson Street) and at “The Beach House “in Narragansett. He was the type to enjoy all of it, but some of his fondest childhood memories were playing both wiffleball and baseball at the beach house as well as simply being at the ocean with family and friends.
Our dear brother was a vivacious sports fan, playing both organized baseball and basketball well into his teen years. Once he settled into his adult life, his love of sports only grew, especially with regard to his beloved Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and New England Patriots. A few days before passing, we asked him, when was “The Goal”, Tommy? He quickly responded, May 10th, 1970 also letting us know it was a goal by Bobby Orr, assisted from behind the net by Derek Sanderson! When we thought he was done, he further let us know the defenseman who tripped Bobby Orr was Noel Picard and the goalie was Glenn Hall. Tommy’s long-term memory was always that of wonder.
Tommy was part of the “original eight”, who all loved him dearly, deeply and respected him as a family man. As a young man, our brother was further blessed by marrying his sweetheart, Maureen. Together they were blessed with beautiful Nicole. The love of these two beautiful women is what made the most significant impact in his life, it sustained Tommy in good times and in difficult ones as well.
Our entire family would like to thank his wife of 38 years, Maureen and Nicole for being so loving, caring, supportive and compassionate to Tommy. We love you both and want you to know that you have our immense warmth and great respect.
Keep Swinging, Tommy!
