Thomas Morrocco Obituary

Thomas D. Morrocco, 87, was born in Providence, RI on March 14, 1937, the son of the late Alexander Morrocco and Alice G. (Cyr) Morrocco.  He lived in Cranston for the majority of his life until he moved to Sun City Center, FL after retiring.  Thomas was married to the late Gale P. (Kelley) Morrocco, for 65 years.  He is survived by his four children, Danny Morrocco of Cranston, Cheryl A (Morrocco) Goodwin of Sun City Florida, Thomas D. Morrocco Jr of Cranston and William F Morrocco of Coventry, RI. Thomas is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Thomas was a member of the Cranston Fire Department where he served for over 37 years climbing up through the ranks and retiring as Assistant Chief of the Department in November 1995.  When he was a Captain with the Department, he was awarded the Department Commendation for his professionalism and outstanding attention to detail as his quick action reference a gas leak in a local residence.  Thomas was also a member of Providence/Cranston Elks Lodge 14.  He worked his way up the ranks within the Elks becoming Exalted Ruler.  He then moved to the TriCity Elks Lodge 14 where he continued to be a very active member.  Thomas also became a life member where he continued his commitment to the Elks and the community.  Upon his moving to Sun City Center, FL he became very active in dog rescue.  Thomas joined Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort (CARE) in 2016. He volunteered his time and energy to ensure that rescued dogs were cared for and loved eventually ensuring that the dogs were adopted by loving homes.  While he worked at CARE he adopted Ginger, a pit bull mix, which was his companion for numerous years.

A visitation will be held at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, on Tuesday, April 16th from 9:30am to 11:30am.  A graveside service and burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston, at 12:15pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be to Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort (CARE) at 1528 27th Street SE, Ruskin, FL 33573.
