Susan A. (Puchalski) Erno, 73, of Cranston, passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 16, 2024, at the home of her sister, Gerri Graves, in Rumford RI following a 3 month battle with cancer.
Born in Providence, she was a beloved daughter of the late Henry M. “Spike” and JoAnne T. (Moore) Puchalski.
After graduating from Pawtucket West High School, Sue attended Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School and spent several years doing secretarial work, including being an executive secretary for Edwards and Angell Law Firm in Providence. Sue attended Providence College where she earned her Bachelor’s in English and later pursued her Master's in Multicultural Studies from Brown University. Sue was an English teacher at Shea High School in Pawtucket for many years. She then worked as a Reading specialist and went on to teach Adult Education classes in Cranston.
Sue found pleasure in reading and tending to her flower gardens, but most of all Sue cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She particularly loved to travel, seeing new sights and going on new adventures. She looked forward to holidays, entertaining her family and friends at her festively decorated house, especially on Easter Sunday. Sue was a bright, vibrant, independent woman. Her famous “Susie Smile” will be missed.
Sue is survived by her dear sisters, Geraldine “Gerri” Graves (Matthew O’Neill) of Rumford and Mari-Ellen Boisclair (Robert) of Johnston. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Heidi Graves Waters (Jeff) of Cumberland, Michael Graves of Arlington, MA, Stephanie Wiggins (Billy) of Chandler, AZ, Andrew Puchalski of Waikiki, HI, Patrick Boisclair of Providence and Kevin Boisclair of Johnston, and her great nieces and nephews, Emma, Charlotte, Henry, Sam, and Jon Anthony. Sue was predeceased by her brother Stephen “Chow” Puchalski.
Sue’s sisters would like to sincerely thank the many friends and family members that provided much needed emotional and physical support during this very challenging time.
They would also like to acknowledge the exceptional care and support that Sue received from RI Hospital Medical and Oncology professionals, the administration and care staff of Bethany Home, Providence, and Hope Hospice for their empathy and professionalism.
Her funeral will begin, Thursday, August 22, at 9:45 AM from the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mark’s Church, Cranston. VISITATION Wednesday, August 21 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM in the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private at a later date.
