Sukjo Kim passed away June 30, 2024 at the West Shore Health Center, Warwick.
Mr. Kim was born on March 16, 1934, in Pohang, Korea. He grew up in Busan, Korea and as a young man moved to Seoul to attend college where he graduated with a degree in engineering. In 1958, he married Yungwan Park; their 65-year marriage lasted until her death in December 2023.
Mr. & Mrs. Kim began their family in Busan, where their first two daughters, Julie and Chinmi, were born. A few years later, they moved back to Seoul, where Chiwan and Denise were born. In 1973, the family moved to the United States and settled in Rhode Island, where they lived for over fifty years.
A master mechanic and engineer, he designed machine tools for the local firm Brown & Sharpe for over forty years before his retirement. Among his friends and family, he was known as someone who could fix anything.
Popular in the Korean-American community, Mr. Kim was known for his quick humor; he and his wife enjoyed entertaining their many friends in their home in West Warwick. He played golf with the same intensity as he did everything else in life; after retirement he and his wife enjoyed many travels together.
He took great pride in the many accomplishments of his four daughters, and sons-in-laws Barry, Eric, Tom and David but nothing gave him greater pleasure than his seven grandchildren Jamie, Barry, Casey, Sara, Grace, Kane, and Jaxon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service Saturday, July 6, at 11am at the Rhode Island Central Korean Church, 336 Norwood Ave., Warwick.
