Richard D. Volpe, Sr., 78, of Coventry, formerly of Cranston, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (DelPonte) Volpe.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Rosario and Domenica (Testa) Volpe and the brother of the late Robert Volpe. Mr. Volpe proudly served our nation with the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Richard lived a life filled with love and humor. He was a devoted husband, father, cherished grandfather and loyal friend. He was a pillar of strength to all who knew him. Throughout his life he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, sports, gardening and putting up elaborate Christmas light displays. He had a sense of humor that will never be forgotten. Before retiring, Richard was a long time owner of Bar-Tan Manufacturing, a jewelry manufacturing company in Providence.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his three sons, Michael Volpe and his wife Diana, Brian Volpe, and Richard D. Volpe, Jr. and his wife Dina; and his two grandchildren, Annabella Volpe and Connor Volpe.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation, Thursday morning, Oct. 9, from 9am until 10am, in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Holy Apostles Church, Cranston. Military honors and entombment will follow at Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum at St. Ann Cemetery.
