Raymond Melfi Obituary

RAYMOND A. MELFI of Cranston passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 17, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Antonio & Maria (Ponticelli) Melfi and the beloved husband of the late Gloria D. Melfi. Devoted father of Dr.Gregg Melfi and his wife Elizabeth of Swansea, MA and daughter Karen (Melfi) Fisco and her husband Ralph of Monarch Beach, CA. Raymond was the loving grandfather of James, Alexander and Christina Melfi. Raymond was a beloved brother of Clara Campagnone, Evelyne Henry and the late Emma Chiello, Olga DiPetrillo, Mitchell Melfi, Mildred Melfi, Agnes Castiglioni and Anthony Melfi, brother in law of Natalie Reo, Lori Badessa, Audrey Waterman and the late Lucy Vitale and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. 

Raymond, a WWII Army Veteran, graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and was degreed from Johnson & Wales University. He began his early career at Federal Products in Providence and was later employed as a Project Director for the US Department of Defense Sup Ship Trident Submarine Division in Groton, CT until his retirement in 1990. Raymond was recognized and honored with distinguished civil service awards throughout his 32 years of dedicated service to the federal government.

To all those fortunate to have known Raymond, he was a champion among men, a guiding light and an exemplary role model; selfless, kind, caring, generous and thoughtful. Always willing and poised to help anyone in need. Raymond profoundly and positively influenced so many with his wisdom, humility, compassion and complete devotion to family and friends. He will be missed beyond words and his gentle loving spirit will forever illuminate in all our hearts.

Friends and family will be received from 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 25 at St. Mary’s Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to commence at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
