Paul Allin Obituary

Paul P. Allin, 83, of Cranston, passed peacefully from this world, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, February 9, 2024. He was the cherished husband of Carole A. (Lynch) Allin. Born June 6, 1940, in Providence, he was a son of the late Raymand and Alva (Guertin) Allin.

Paul married the love of his life, Carole, in April 1961. Their life was one of romance, trust, true friendship, and dear devotion. Their love for one another shaped their bond; they affectionately merged and became one person with two souls.

Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school. He entered navigator flight training soon after basic training. Paul served active duty in the USAF from 1960 to 1964. He proudly flew in his favorite jet fighter, the F-101 B “Voodoo” as a “Scope Wizard” for most of his career.

In February 1962, during a training exercise from Griffiss Air Force Base, Paul and his pilot, Jim Page, were forced to eject from their jet at 39,000 ft after mechanical difficulties. Both survived with only minor injuries and lived to tell some exciting stories. In October of 1962 Paul assisted in flying the secret mission over Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

After leaving active duty in 1964, he joined the Rhode Island Air National Guard then became an Air Force Reservist until retiring with the rank of Major in 1982. Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Roger Williams University in 1974. In his civilian life he worked for several companies before retiring from Met Life in December 2003.

Paul lived a rich exciting life with tremendous love in his heart for his family. His passion for flying and his F101B was notorious to all who knew him. He also loved nature, teaching his granddaughter Alex to fish, giving much needed fatherly advice to his daughters Paula and Jan and son Jason, but most of all spending his life with his wife Carole.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he leaves his daughters, Paula Allin and Janet (Allin) Schoolcraft and her husband Jason, and his treasured granddaughter Alexandrea Schoolcraft. He was the brother of Charles Allin and of the late Thomas, Ernest, and Raymond Allin.

A funeral service will be held Thursday Feb. 15,  at 11am in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with military honors and burial following at Highland Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4pm until 7pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are greatly appreciated to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, 1010 Hartford Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919 (osdri.org).
