Norma "Sissy" G. (Garner) Ransom

Norma Gwendolyn “Sissy” (Garner) Ransom, known as “Mom”, ‘Mama”, “Maw”, “Mother” and “Grandma” passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her children on Monday, March 9, 2026. 

She was born June 24, 1936 in Maryville Tennessee to the late Obea Kate Garner and Lee Edward Garner. 

She was proceeded in death by her sister, Lee Ethel Smith, her brothers, David Garner, Jack Garner, John Garner, Ron Garner and Don Garner.  She is the loving sister of Mary Dorsey of Altadena California, Elaine Garner and Connie McGee of Pasadena, California and Daniel Garner of Maryville, TN and Neil Garner of Marlin, Texas. 

She graduated from Halls High School in Knoxville, Tennessee and went on to work odd jobs and cleaning homes before moving to Providence, RI in 1960.  

She was the wife of the Late Willie “Bud Ram” Ransom and known to many as his “Boss Lady” and “Landlady”. He loved her to no end and treated her like a queen. She was a loving mother to Gwendolyn Ilene Ivy of Maricopa Arizona, Clifford Eugene Goins of Cranston, RI, Stephanie Britto and her husband Ed Britto, III of Warwick, RI, William “Billy” Ransom and his wife Karen of Providence, David Ransom of North Providence, RI, Christopher Ransom and his wife Monica of Mesa, Arizona, Kristina Ransom of Wakefield, RI and Joseph Durant of East Providence, RI. She has 23 grandchildren and was grandmother to the late Marcus Jason Goins and well over 35 great grandchildren which were the true highlight of her life and the love that she has for her family was truly immense. 

In her earlier years, she played the electric guitar with close friends and would have “Jam Sessions” at home and she taught her children and grandchildren how to play guitar. She loved gardening, cooking, fishing, going to the casino, watching shark movies and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and just sitting in the yard sometimes taking in fresh air would make her happy!

She was the matriarch of the family and laid the foundation for true family love and affection and taught her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren about family love and how important it is to love one another and take care of each other.  Her Legacy will carry on for generations to come and she will forever live on in our hearts.  She will be sorely missed.

Norma's services were private with burial following at North Burial Ground.
