Nancy Veronica Thomas formerly of Providence, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, October 24, 2021. She was the sister of Adele Jabour and the aunt of many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Abraham) Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, the late Budio Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Sr., and James Thomas, and her sisters, the late Susan Abood, and Mary Salem.
Nancy was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. George Maronite Catholic Church. Until her illness, she attended daily Mass during the Lenten season. For many years, she was the Catechist Instructor for St. George’s Church. Also, for many years she volunteered for the Columban Fathers.
After placing first in the Civil Service test, Nancy became employed by the State of Rhode Island Division of Taxation. For 57 years, she rose through the ranks and became a revenue officer. Upon her retirement, Governor Donald Carcieri presented her with a proclamation for outstanding service.
Nancy was an avid golfer who traveled domestically and internationally participating in many golf tournaments, at times, the sole female participant. She won many awards, especially in the Carolinas, and was particularly known for her terrific short game. She was a member of the Seniors Golf Association, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the National Senior Sports Association of Fairfax, Virginia.
Nancy was also a consistent presence at all family events and often the first to dance the traditional Dabke at the many weddings of her nieces and nephews.
Calling hours shall be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 1493 Cranston Street, Cranston, R.I. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. MASKS REQUIRED. Burial will take place immediately after the Mass at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Missionary Society of St. Columban, 65 Ferry Road, P.O.
