Nancy Maria (Saccocia) Rebello Downie, 74, was cruelly taken by aggressive lung cancer on November 11, 2022. Born in Providence, RI to the late Florentino and Virginia (Frasier) Saccocia, she was the constant companion to her spouse John W. Downie.
A graduate of Hope Highschool, Nancy managed to complete two careers, a multi-decade career in retail where she rose from part-time cashier to store manager, eventually overseeing the opening of several local outlets for major retail chains. Her retail career was ended by adult-onset asthma, and she responded by signing on with a local bank, progressing to fraud detection and recovery. After retiring she invested herself into renting crafting tables at several local craft fairs with her daughter-in-law, Jannette Rebello.
Nancy was pre-deceased by both her children; first her youngest Jon Rebello in 2014, and two years later her oldest Eugene Rebello, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 32+ years, John Downie, her Daughter-in-law Jannette, The Nieces (Heather, Kristy, and Courtney) and their families, her longtime friend Tim Alcott, all of the many friends she made, and her beloved pets: Maya, Julius, and Juno. She is sorely missed by all.
A ceremony will be held to honor her on Friday, November 18th at 10 am at “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, with burial following at St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home Friday morning from 9 am until 10 am. Attendees should be aware that primary access to Pontiac Avenue (Rt 37) is under heavy construction in that area and alternate routes should be taken.
Before passing, Nancy asked that donations be made to The Warwick Animal Shelter or The Friends of The Warwick Animal Shelter in lieu of flowers, P.O. Box 9285 Warwick, RI 02889-9285.
