Mary E. Mitchroney (Santangini), 92, of Cranston, RI passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday June 4, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Domenic Mitchroney for 45 years. Born in Cranston, RI, a daughter of the late Andrew and Grace M. (Ciunci) Santangini.
She was a graduate of Cranston High School. She worked at American Universal Insurance Company followed by being a teacher assistant in the Cranston School System and later went on to work as a claims reviewer for Metropolitan Life Insurance, retiring from there after 25 years. After retirement, she dedicated her time to her four grandchildren. She was known to many as “Grandma Mary” or “Ma Mary”. Mary also enjoyed meeting her friends at the Warwick Mall food court for lunch or coffee and taking bus trips with friends through the Johnston Senior Center. She also enjoyed her luncheons and visits with her cousins.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila M. Capobianco of Cranston, son, Steven M. Mitchroney and his wife, Doreen Mitchroney of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Grandmother of Derek and Gaspare Capobianco-DiBlasi, Erika Capobianco, Michael Mitchroney and Andrew Mitchroney. Sister of Grace Toole and brother-in- law Gary Toole. Sister-in-law of the late Bernard and Santella Degnan and the late Patrick and Rose Kennedy. Aunt to three nieces and four nephews and late nephew David Kennedy and great aunt to her great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her loving caretaker and friend, Maria Benros who we thank from the bottom of our hearts.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 8:45 a.m. from “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours Sunday 4-7 p.m.
