Mariam Eletu Obituary

Mariam Molara Eletu, age 27, born April 26th, 1996, passed away peacefully at home on March 29th, 2024. Known to her family as “Yolk”, Mariam was a one of a kind individual full of life, happiness, and spirit. Despite all her medical issues and no matter what obstacles she faced during her time on this Earth, Mariam never let show that she wasn’t a joyful, happy individual.

Born in Providence, RI and raised in Cranston, RI, Mariam was the daughter of Latif & Michelle Eletu of Cranston.

She was a graduate of the Carter School at Meeting Street and an honorary graduate from Cranston High School East, both as part of the graduating class of 2017. She was a participant in Special Olympics bowling and playing baseball for Cranston Western Little League Challenger Division, both of which she enjoyed very much.

Mariam enjoyed the presence of being surrounded by family and friends which not only made her happy, but them as well. Mariam appreciated life fully because she knew she had the love and support of her family. If the saying is true, that “A smile can speak louder than words” then Mariam’s smile illustrates just that. Mariam’s smile was so contagious that even if you were having the worst day ever or feeling sad, her smile would oversight your emotion at that moment and brighten your day. When it comes to knowing someone else solely as a person and an individual, Mariam was the best person everybody was glad and honored to know. Mariam’s spirit and character were something incomparable to any other person’s.

Besides her parents, Mariam leaves behind 2 older sisters, Sinat Adesola Yetunde Eletu of Nigeria and Monisola Abujade of Texas as well as 2 younger brothers, Latif Eletu II and Raheem Eletu, both of Cranston and her maternal grandfather, Robert E. Burns of East Providence. Mariam also leaves behind a considerable amount of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Karen E. Burns (Parker) and her paternal grandparents, Rahim Eletu and Sinat Adesola Eletu.

Relatives and friends are invited to her calling hours on Friday, April 5th, from 4:00-7:00pm at “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, RI, 02910. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, April 6th, in the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pawtuxet Memorial Park (Warwick).
