Maria (Capuano) Laurenza

Maria (Capuano) Laurenza, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Miriam Hospital on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.  She was the wife of the late Domenico Laurenza. Born in Forio D’Ischia, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Vito and Libera (DelPonte) Capuano.

Maria leaves her daughter, Lora Oliver and husband Joey and Son Domenico E. Laurenza and wife Mickie. Devoted grandmother of  Domenico E. Laurenza and wife Amanda, Stephen D’Ercole and wife Gianna, Christina Laurenza and husband Jarred and nine cherished great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Caterina Calise Capuano, Franco Capuano and Nunziatina Gallo. She also leaves many nieces and nephews here and in Italy.

After emigrating to the United States, Maria married Domenico, raised her beautiful family and worked as a stone setter for Clark & Coombs Jewelry Company. She was an amazing cook and especially well known for her exquisite rabbit dinners. Maria was a caregiver her entire life, tending to everyone’s needs. She always took care of friends in need, cooking and taking food to them..she was the best. She adored her grandson Stephen and  helped Lora raise him. She was “Big Nonna” to the great-grandchildren and Nonna to everyone else. She will also be missed by her beloved Shih Tzu dogs, Mia, Fritza and Sadie Mae.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter and favorite son-in-law Joey.

Her calling hours are THURSDAY November 9th from 4-7 p,m. at “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Her funeral is Friday at 8:45 a.m.from “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m, in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Johnston. Burial will be private. Cranston.
