Luz Tejada, lovingly known as “Negra” or “Manega,” passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Luz migrated to the United States in the early 1970s with the dream of building a better future for her family. Through tireless work, sacrifice, and perseverance, she helped to bring many of her family members from the Dominican Republic to settle roots here in Rhode Island.
Luz was known above all for being one of the rocks of the Tejada family. She became the matriarch of the Tejada family and helped lay the foundation for a life of opportunity, stability, and unity in the United States. Her home was always open to everyone; there was always a room available and coffee on the stove for anyone who visited. She was known for her wisdom, calm demeanor, resilience, and unwavering strength. A strong woman with a generous heart, she paved the way for many members of her family and inspired generations through her love, guidance, and sacrifice.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Migdalia Duran, and her husband, Jose Blas Duran; her cherished grandchildren, Gilberto Duran and Lucely Duran; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Joel V. Duran, Francis J. Rodriguez, and Penelope L. Rodriguez.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she now rests peacefully and is reunited with her beloved husband, Bienvenido “Bienbo” Bueno, along with her parents and siblings who preceded her in death.
Her legacy of sacrifice, wisdom, strength, and unconditional love will live on for generations. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation, Monday, May 11, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston.
