Lorraine Romano Obituary


Lorraine A. Romano, 78, of Cranston, RI, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Sunny View Nursing Home in Warwick, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Pio A. Romano Jr. She was born in Providence, the daughter of the late John and Yolanda (Carnevale) Bonitati. She leaves her five children; Pio A. Romano III (China) of Winter Garden, FL,  Rayna R. Romano of East Providence, John M. Romano (Stephanie) of Windermere, FL, Robert S. Romano (Marie) of Warwick and  David C. Romano (Joyce) of Warwick; A brother John Bonitati Jr. of Smithfield and her Niece, Nicole Bonitati of Smithfield, She leaves her grandchildren; Pio A. Romano IV, Gianna C. Romano, Daniel Kirby, Stephanie A. Boscia, David J. Romano, Pio Angelo Romano, Alexandra L. Romano, Blake A. Romano, Jerilyn A. DiFilippo, Robert S. Romano Jr., Michael G. Romano, Christian A. Romano and Parisa A. Romano and her Great-Grandchildren; Thomas, Eva, Rayna, Raymond, Ramon, Rayanna and Nadia. After raising her five children, Lorraine decided to attend the prestigious Rittner School of floral design in Boston, MA, upon graduating she began her career as a professional florist and business owner by opening the Gazebo Flower Shop in the lobby of the Biltmore Hotel in Providence.  She later went on to purchase Ray Florist, a long-standing community flower shop in the Silver Lake section of Providence. She was a wonderful artistic floral designer who loved her work and really cared for her clients.  She successfully operated Ray Florist until her retirement in 2007. In 2009 she relocated to Windermere, Florida to be near two of her sons and then returning to Rhode Island in 2018. Lorraine had many hobbies over the years, she was always a voracious reader and loved books on spirituality and religion. She made amazing creations with her needlepoint skills and was a fabulous cook. She was well known for hosting many parties and gatherings at her home, which was built by her father, and in her meticulously landscaped backyard overlooking the city. While her children were growing up her home was the gathering place for most of the neighborhood kids, which she greatly enjoyed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday December 18 at 11am. in St. Bartholomew’s Church, 297 Laurel Hill Avenue Providence.  Burial will be private.
