Kevin Gedney Obituary

Kevin A Gedney, Age 56,  loving husband and devoted father, jokester, foodie, avid sports fan and all around great guy passed away on December 22, 2020 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness, with his better half and beloved wife of 30 years, Kim, by his side. Kevin’s battle with serious medical issues over the past few weeks was a testament to his courage and optimism in facing life challenges. Despite the pain, Kevin stayed strong and remained hopeful until the end.

Kevin was born in Toronto, Canada on April 17, 1964 and lived most of his life in the Toronto metropolitan area. He married his wife, Kim, in her hometown of Warwick, Rhode Island on November 24, 1990, and the couple settled in Brampton, Ontario until their move back to Rhode Island in 2014.

Throughout his childhood and early adulthood, Kevin was a bass drummer for the Queens York Rangers and the Unity Flute & Drum Corp, culminating in a performance for Queen Elizabeth, where he was honored to be among the group to present the Queen with a flag.  Forever the avid sports enthusiast, Kevin spent many years on the ice playing hockey, both as a player and later as a coach and member of his league’s executive board. In addition to hockey, Kevin played catcher for a fast pitch baseball team and coached his nephews in both hockey and baseball for many years.

Kevin worked in the transportation industry for over 35 years both in Canada and when he relocated to the US, working his way up from diesel truck mechanic to service advisor and shop manager.

Kevin will be remembered as a guy who loved a good laugh and was always on board for a practical joke - even at his own expense. Always the life of the party, his loud voice and laughter filled the room.  Kevin’s biggest pride and joy, though, were his wife and children. He especially looked forward to Friday evenings when they would order pizza (every Friday night!) and spend time together as a family.

Kevin is survived by his wife Kimberly (“Kim”) A. (McCabe) Gedney of Warwick, Rhode Island and their two young children Victoria and William (“Billy”) Gedney.  He was the beloved son of Gail (Nelson) Osmond and her husband Roy Osmond of Tillsonburg, Ontario and the late Donald Gedney and his wife Margaret “Peggy” Crichton of Brampton, Ontario. He was the brother of Stephen Gedney and his wife Debbie Gedney of Brampton, Ontario, the late Brian Gedney and his wife, Sandra Gedney of Brampton, Ontario, and the step-brother of Denise Donaldson and her husband Ron Donaldson of Scarborough, Ontario. Kevin was also the beloved son-in-law of Janet McElroy, of Warwick, Rhode Island and brother-in-law and dear friend of Kathy and William Paul of Warwick, Rhode Island.  Kevin leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss their fun uncle dearly, as well as his extended Gedney family in Ontario.
