Joseph "Joe" Pupella Obituary

Joseph “Joe” D. Pupella, 87, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2020 at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center. Born in Providence, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph Pupella and Alice (Tomao) Pupella.

Joe was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a member of the Air Force. After his time in the service, Joe worked in a steel foundry for many years and then as a delivery truck driver for an Italian wholesale food distributor.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie (Gentile) Pupella of 30 years. He was the cherished father of daughter Sandra Verdecchia and her husband Steve, and son Joseph Pupella and his wife Gina. He was also a loving stepfather to Lisa Ansaldi, Karen McCahey, and Lori Gizzarelli.

Better known as “Poppy”, he was the beloved grandfather of Kristin Verdecchia, Kerri Verdecchia, Joli Pimental, Joseph Pupella, Casey Ansaldi, Carissa Ansaldi, and Hailey Ansaldi. He was also fortunate enough to have 6 great grandchildren; Marena Davenport, Ryan Ellinwood, Sophia DiMezza, Fallyn Pimental, Jaxson Pupella, and newborn Mason Macomber.

Joe had a profound impact on everyone who was lucky enough to know him. He had the unbelievable ability to light up every room he walked into, and never failed to make everyone laugh. He was so loved and cherished by his family. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement.

His Visitation and Funeral Service will be held Monday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with his Funeral Service at 1 pm. Burial will be private.  Social distancing will be observed, face coverings are required, limited attendance in accordance with current regulations.  Kindly omit flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Hospice and palliative Care 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
