John J. Monti, Sr.

John J. Monti, Sr., 86, of Johnston passed away at home Tuesday July 6, 2021. He was the beloved husband for 61 years of Marie (DiVozzi) Monti. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Ralph and Laura (Ferrara) Monti.

John was a laborer for local union # 271 since 1960 working in construction.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Cheryl Blain, John Monti, Jr., Lori Chartier and husband Robert Chartier, Jr., Joseph Monti, Michael Monti and wife Gina and daughter-in-law Cleonice Monti. He was the father of the late Ralph Monti. Devoted grandfather of Joseph Monti, Benjamin Monti, Concetta Monti, Zachary Jenkins, Laura Joyal and husband Dan, Sacha and Pat Diffley, Christopher, Caitlan and Ryan Blain, Jacob Chartier and wife Olivia, and Matthew and Jenna Monti. Great-grandfather of nine. He was the brother of the late Concetta Monti and Frank Monti.

John loved his children, grandchildren and especially “his Maria”. He loved his family cookouts. He was an avid card player, enjoyed going to the casino, Lincoln Downs and playing his favorite daily lottery numbers.

His funeral and visitation will be held Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church 118 King Phillip St. Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
