Joan Mary (George) Merolla born October 26, 1937, passed away at home in Warwick, RI on February 24, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Joan leaves behind her husband of 68 years, Carmino A Merolla, her daughter Lori Ann Reid, her son Michael Merolla, her daughter Myrna Messier and son-in-law Marc Messier, granddaughter Brook Zambarano and her husband Christopher Zambarano along with their two children Karmella and Carmino, grandson Brandon Reid and his wife Cassie Reid along with their three children Oliver, Vivienne, and Jameson, granddaughter Breanna Kirby and her husband Osei Kirby along with their three children Violet, Clover, and Osei II “TuTu”, grandson Baker Messier his wife Kelli Messier and great-granddaughter Oaklynn Rees. Joan was preceded at the time of death by her parents Joseph and Julia George, sisters Jeanette Sylvia, Francis Gilchrist, and Norma Howard, and her grandson Rees Messier.
Joan embraced her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She loved to cook, sew, do Sudoku, go to the casino, fish, and be at the ocean whenever possible. Joan was a skilled seamstress creating beautiful clothing and costumes for Gaspee Day Parade. Joan loved games and taught her grandchildren hi lo jack, a game they continued to play as a family throughout adulthood. Joan was full of life! She will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Saturday, March 1, from 10 am until 12 Noon, in the "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, where a memorial service will begin at 12 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA)
