Jean A. (Vanner) Spina

Jean A. (Vanner) Spina, 90, of Johnston, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 29, 2026, at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger A. Spina Sr. for 53 years. 

Born January 3, 1936, in her family’s home in Johnston, she was a daughter of the late Helen J. (Zloty) and John F. Vanner. 

She was an administrative assistant for FM Global formerly known as Allendale Insurance for over 30 years. She was incredibly dedicated to her work and was often applauded for her attention to detail.

Jean was devoted to her husband and family. She was deeply family oriented and loved spending time with her family, especially during Sunday dinners. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was adored by many and will be missed.

She is survived by her children, Roger A. Spina Jr. and Lisa A. Kurtz, her grandchildren Roger A. Spina III and Jenna L. Kurtz, and her great-grandchild Roger A. Spina IV. She is also survived by her sister Catherine “Kitty” Day. Jean was predeceased by her siblings Robert Vanner, Elizabeth “Bessie” O’Brien, Helen “Theresa” Maioli, and M. Doris Reynolds. 

Her visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, February 4 at 8:45 from the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
