James Mezak Obituary

James Ronald Mezak, 74, passed away the morning of January 7th, 2024 surrounded by his family and granddogs. Born in Cleveland, Ohio he was the son of the late Maryanne (Cisco) Mezak and John Mezak and brother to the late Robert Mezak, Elmer Mezak, Rosemary Mezak and June Farkas of Ohio.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Lucy (Alviano) Mezak, his Son Christopher Mezak, Daughter-in-law Gwen (Stokes) Mezak, as well as his beloved Sister-in-law Nancy Alviano.

When he was 18 years old, Jim enlisted in the US Navy. After serving 3 years in Vietnam, he was stationed at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, where he met Lucy, the love of his life, in January 1971, after being set up on a blind date. He knew she was the one, and gave her a promise ring in March, before he left for his final 6 month deployment to Diego Garcia where he served in the Seabees, doing construction on vital airstrips. During that time, he sent frequent love letters and cassette tapes to his future wife. Upon his return, they were engaged in November 1971, and after being released from active service, they were married days later on April 9th,1972.

Jim and Lucy built a life together in Cranston, Rhode Island where he worked for Sunbeam Bread as a Salesman and Driver for over 30 years.  He devoted his life to his family and loved spending time fishing, camping, farming and taking on carpentry projects with his family by his side. In recent years, one of his favorite activities was watching his granddog, Zoe, play in the back yard. Smiling from ear to ear, he loved to say what an "ANIMAL" she was, and how he loved her so much.

He was a loving Father, Husband and loyal friend to those who loved & knew him.

The ones who knew how big his heart was, were always lucky to be on the receiving end of his selfless love.
