James Kelley Obituary

James Edward Kelley, 53, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, January 29, 2024. He was the beloved son of Carlotta (DiMaio) Kelley and the late George E. Kelley. 

Jim was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Smithfield High School, where he was involved in various sports and activities.  While in high school he was a member of the Rhode Island Junior Philharmonic, playing the trumpet and the piano.  Jim continued with his music and graduated from Rhode Island College with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Following graduation, Jim qualified for and maintained membership in MENSA and the Screen Actors Guild. His theatre experience included work at Brown University, Trinity Repertory Theatre. AS220, and other locally filmed movies, such as “Something About Mary”, “Underdog” and “Fever Pitch.”  He was an active member of several local deaf and hard of hearing organizations.  Jim was an artist, having his work displayed at different times for various entities, such as the Art League Rhode Island and the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative.  

Jim was married to the late Lisa (Potter) Kelley. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, George A. Kelley and his wife Myitzu; and his sister, Jacqueline Kelley and her husband David Krekorian. He is also the uncle of Amanda, Christopher, Emily and Shannon Kelley, Nicholas and Noah James, and Karoline Krekorian Poss and Alexandra Krekorian DeVoto.  He also leaves behind his devoted caregivers, Tommy Bengaff, Stephanie Quinonez, and Michelle Palumbo.  Jim’s family would like to express gratitude to his caregivers and to the medical professionals who cared for Jim throughout his lifetime.

His family would also like to recognize the City of Warwick’s support for Jim through the staff at the housing authority, police, and fire and the various State of Rhode Island services and benefits he received.  

His funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 5, at 8:45am at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Philip Church, Greenville. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 4, from 2pm until 6pm in the funeral home and again Monday morning from 8:15am until 8:45am.
