James W. Dodge, 74, of Cranston, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Lewy body dementia, Saturday, September 21, 2024, at AccentCare Hospice in Milton MA.
Born in Cranston, RI, he was a son of the late William C. and Janet K. (Kelly) Dodge.
James was a craftsman; he was a carpenter by trade. He was part of the RI Carpenter Union for 42 years. He was most proud of his work to build the Providence Place Mall, the Providence Civic Center, and many new buildings at Deerfield Academy. At heart he was a lifelong hippy, growing his hair out to avoid the draft, racing dirt bikes, challenging friends on the Vermont slopes, and seeing every great band at Woodstock rain or shine.
James was a great dad and grandfather who never missed a dance or sports practice. He taught us all to work hard, do-it-yourself, pay attention to the details and good things will come. He is survived by his daughters Tanya Langlois and her husband Matt and Danielle Snyder and her husband Seth. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Jacob, Gavin, Chloe Langlois, Maya and Zoe Snyder. He was the brother of Thomas J. and Robert P. Dodge.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Friday, October 4th 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. A Celebration of James’s Life will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
