Gloria S. (Brien) Lennon

Gloria Sarah (Brien) Lennon, 90, of Cranston, R.I., beloved wife of Eugene P. Lennon, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 19, 2024. 

Born on January 6, 1934, in Providence, she was the eighth of nine children of the late Horace and Matilda (Chagnon) Brien. Gloria graduated from St. Charles High School in 1951. She married the true love of her life, Eugene, in 1954 and was a devoted mother to their five children. Eugene and Gloria were married for 70 wonderful years. 

For 35 years, Gloria worked as a bookkeeper for the Cranston Municipal Employees Credit Union. After her retirement, she continued to work diligently for her daughter’s family business. 

Gloria loved socializing and enjoyed playing bingo and cards with family and friends. At home, she cherished listening to the radio and playing music on her piano. 

Gloria was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary daily. She was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Ann’s Church in Cranston, RI. 

In addition to her husband Eugene, she leaves behind her five children: Michael Lennon, Karen M. Stein, and her husband Jeffrey, William E. Lennon, Eileen Lennon Smith, and Janice A. Lennon. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Matthew M. Lennon, Daniel J. Lennon, Stephanie A. Lennon, Sara M. Lennon, Bryan P. Smith, Emily E. Stein, Christina A. Smith, and Katharine G. Stein; and five great-grandchildren: Haley J. Lennon, Andrew M. Lennon, Ryan Curtis, Paige K. Lennon, and Isaac Lennon. 

Gloria is also survived by her brother, Norman Brien, and was predeceased by her siblings Raymond Brien, Rita Cournoyer, Blanche Birch, Eva Landry, Doris DeBaldo, Theresa Hennessey, and Jeanne Gervais. 

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Gloria’s wide circle of friends, who brought her so much joy in life. 

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 24, at 10 a.m. in St. Mark’s Church, Cranston. Burial will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
