George S. Champlin, 85, of Barrington, RI passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Clapp) Champlin for 45 years.
Born in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late Robert B. and Janet (Ward) Champlin.
George graduated from The Pingry School in 1956, and was a varsity athlete in track/field, soccer and swimming. He graduated from Brown University with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1960, and was a member of the sailing team. He obtained a master’s in business administration from Pace University in 1969 and was a member of the National Honorary Society in Business Administration.
George worked for a variety of companies including Mutual Benefit Life Insurance, CBS Inc., Ard Appraisal Company, First Fidelity Bancorporation, CoreStates Financial Corp., and the Vanguard Group. He was a member of The Appraisal Institute completing a MAI Designation as a successful real estate appraiser. He was certified as an American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers.
During retirement, George was a member of several social clubs and organizations. He was a coordinator for courses at Providence’s Lifelong Learning Collaborative. He served on the board of directors as the Treasurer and Secretary of the Bristol County Water Authority. He was a member of the Barrington Garden Club. George served as an Elder at Barrington Presbyterian Church.
Besides his wife, George is also survived by his son, John A. Champlin, and Elizabeth’s children, JoAnne D. Albertini and Richard P. Searle. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Elise and Emma Albertini. He was the sibling of Robert Champlin, Sally Herbst and Ted Wobber
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Barrington Presbyterian Church, 400 County Road, Barrington, RI 02806. Inurnment will be private.

More than anything else George was the consummate family man, loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather. George’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in many lives he touched. Above all his greatest joy was his family.
