Francis "Frank" J. Babbitt, 84, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Whitford Ave., Providence, passed away, March 20, 2023 in Naples. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Riley) Babbitt for 18 years. Born Cumberland, a son of the late Charles H. and Mildred V. (Russell) Babbitt. Frank is survived by his children Francis Jr., Michael, and Gary Babbitt and Kimberly Lettieri. Also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles, John and William Babbitt and Mildred Chadwick and Patricia Hines.
Frank owned and operated Consolidated Services in Johnston. After retiring from his business, he worked for the City of Providence as the Chief Mechanical Inspector for the Department of Inspection and Standards. He proudly served the US Navy on the USS Independence CVA-62 as Navigation Quarter Master between the years of 1957-1963. He was a member of the local union 1033 of Providence, a member of the Elks, Moose and the American Legion. He was a communicant and a minister of the alter at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Johnston from 1987 to 2005. Frank was also involved in the Catholic Cursillo Movement in Rhode Island. His retirement took him to Naples Florida, where he enjoyed 17 years of singing Frank Sinatra songs in various restaurants and he also enjoyed making homemade Italian Sausage. Frank and his wife enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ireland in 2001 as he was extremely proud of his Irish Heritage.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, May 19, at 9:30 AM in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Atwood Ave., Johnston. Military Honors and burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
