Evelyn ‘’Evie’’ (Basso) Mainelli, 97, Passed Away on April 9, 2025
Evelyn was born on February 23, 1928 and raised on Federal Hill, Providence, RI. She was the daughter of the late Professor Pellegrino ‘’Salvatore” and Mary (Carrier) Basso; Wife of the late Julio “Sonny” Mainelli; beloved Mother of Denise DeCaro and her husband Frank, and Carol Mainelli and her wife Pamela Parrillo; Grandmother of Nicholas DeCaro and his wife Nicole; Julianne DeCaro and Francesca DeCaro and her partner Robert Ohrenschall; Great-Grandmother of Emery Mae and Sawyer Ohrenschall.
Evelyn was the surviving sister of: Hugo Basso, Orest Basso, Frank Basso, Phyllis Nash, Josephine Fratus, Louise Madancy, Agnes Gould, Marie Badessa, Herbert Basso and Paul Basso and surviving sister-in-law to all of Julio’s 9 siblings as well.
Evelyn loved all her family and her friends. She gained more ‘'friends’’ through social media’s FB whoever her daughters would post something that Evelyn experienced … going to shows, out to dinner, the beach and traveling … She was a FB sensation who should have had her own FB page. She was an active 97 year old. Full of fun and humor. An amazing woman … a force of nature …the salt of the earth.
Evelyn was a buyer of the Outlet Company and an employee of Savoy Jewelry, as well as The Home Insurance Company, before retiring from Industrial National Bank/Fleet Bank; however, the most fun and satisfying job she had was organizing bus trips from Downtown Providence to New York City, Boston, New Hampshire and Atlantic City.
She and Julio were married in the late 1940’s (70 years married) and lived on Federal Hill almost all their lives and were active parishioners of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Their home was opened to everyone whether for dinner or just to visit and talk about her young life, her parents and her siblings. They enjoyed the music of that era mostly because of Frank Sinatra and she became one of his biggest fans. Evelyn received a framed personal autographed photo of him through her daughter Denise and her husband Frank and had an ‘’unveiling’’ party for all her family to see and an evening to enjoy his music. Evelyn loved to travel to California, actually 13 or so times, to see her family especially the children. She was an amazing cook and a great mom to Denise and Carol.
