Evangelia (Melonas) Papaioannou, 96, of Warwick, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023. She was the wife of 57 years of the late Spyridon Papaioannou.
Born March 6, 1927, in Trikala, Thessaly, Greece, she was a daughter of the late Demetrios and Athena Melonas. She along with her late husband and young son came to the US in 1951. She lived in Providence for 54 years before moving in with her son and daughter-in-law Gus and Beth in Warwick, following the death of her husband. She worked for nearly 30 years at Speidel and prior to that she worked at Imperial Knife.
She leaves two sons, Demetrios “James” Papaioannou and his partner Claudia of North Carolina, and Constantine “Gus” Papaioannou and his wife Beth of Warwick; her 7 grandchildren, Evangelia, Zachary, Alex, Anastacia, Spyridon, Meghann and Nicholas; and her 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Her funeral will begin at 8:45am Friday, Nov. 10, at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, followed by a funeral service at 10am in the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston. Burial will be private. Visitation will take place Thursday, Nov. 9, from 4pm until 7pm in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home.
