Etta (Luisi) Scappaticci

Etta (Luisi) Scappaticci, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, just seven weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Scappaticci, her childhood sweetheart and husband of nearly 60 years, and the devoted mother of the late Albert A. Scappaticci.

Born on September 5, 1926, in Providence, Etta was the daughter of the late Michele and Angelina (D’Agostino) Luisi. Raised on Federal Hill, she carried throughout her life the values that defined her generation: faith, family, work, loyalty, and devotion to those she loved.

Etta married Al in 1947, beginning a story that would span decades and serve as the foundation of her family. She worked as a supervisor at Imperial Knife, where she was respected for her strong ethics and her willingness to help others succeed. Later, she worked as a clerk in the Rhode Island Family Court, where she witnessed the challenges, resilience, and hope that shaped so many lives.

To know Etta was to know warmth and hospitality. Her table was a gathering place for family and friends, where coffee was always brewing, stories were always being shared, and no one ever left hungry, with empty hands, or empty pockets. She loved sharing time with her sisters and lifelong friends, treasuring the conversations, memories, and companionship that enriched her life. Throughout the years, she especially enjoyed winters in Florida, surrounded by dear friends and familiar routines.

Nothing brought her greater joy than her family. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took pride in staying connected to their lives. She had a remarkable memory for people, milestones, and family history, and a gift for making people feel remembered, cared for, and that they mattered.

Etta leaves her daughter-in-law, Joann (Caldamone) Scappaticci; her grandchildren, Dr. Albert A. Scappaticci Jr. and his wife Kelly, Stephen N. Scappaticci and his wife Cheryl, Jennifer M. Scappaticci, and Nicholas M. Scappaticci and his wife Rachel; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Amelia, Juliana, Sarah, Olivia, and Domenic.

She was the sister of Anna Vargas and her husband William, and the late Frank Luisi, Maria "Mary" Spaziano, Savina "Sadie" Luisi, and Viola Proto. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Etta's life spanned nearly a century of extraordinary change, but the values she lived by remained constant. Her legacy lives on in family traditions, recipes shared around kitchen tables, stories passed from one generation to the next, and in the example she set through a lifetime of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved.

Visitation will be held Tuesday morning, June 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the WOODLAWN Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Apostles Church, Cranston. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
