Erasmo Macera was born on May 10, 1924 and died on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. He died 22 days short of his 98th birthday. He was born in Castelnuovo Parano, Frosione Italy to the parents of Angelo Macera and Luisa (Lavalle) Macera. Erasmo (Raimuccio) emigrated to the United States in 1956 and was joined by his wife and two young sons in 1960. Erasmo was a hard-working industrious man who when he came to this country worked for A F Luci Construction by day and the Walter Marshall and Pocasset Mills at night. He started a Landscaping business on weekends which eventually became Erasmo Macera Landscaping and L. E. Macera Landscaping. He was also the inspiration, the guiding force, and the mentor to what is now Macera Landscape Construction, which is one of Rhode Island’s most respected landscape companies.
Erasmo beat cancer twice. When he was 59 years old he was given seven weeks to live as he had cancer throughout his body. He recovered from that and went on to work again. At age 85 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he totally recovered from that. He went on to have an enjoyable “retirement” taking frequent trips to Italy with his wife Eduarda and spending many joyous occasions with his relatives and friends there.
“Raimuccio” in his “retirement” years worked at his beloved greenhouse growing New Guinea impatiens and Italian canna lilies for Macera Landscape and growing tomatoes and vegetables for family and friends. He was so proud of his tomatoes and the New Guinea impatiens, they were always the best around. Erasmo was married to Eduarda (Cicciarelli) Macera for 69 ½ years before her passing on Holy Saturday 2019. He is also predeceased by his son Angelo who also died in 2019. He is survived by his son Luigi and his wife Stella of Scituate. Granddaughters Eduarda Macera of Scituate and Camila Macera of Washington DC. He is also survived by grandson Marc Macera and his wife Jen at East Greenwich, Christopher Macera of Bristol, and a daughter in- law Joyce Macera of North Providence. He also lives behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Italy. Erasmo lived a long, beautiful life and did it doing the things he loved. He loved his family, he loved his work, and he loved his garden and his greenhouse. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
