Demetrius James Photopoulos died peacefully surrounded by family after a sudden illness. He was the husband of Jeanne Piotrowicz Photopoulos for 54 years. He also leaves behind his children Rhaea Photopoulos Dautel (husband Canby Jr.), Kristian Photopoulos (wife Janelle) and Koren Photopoulos LaVarta (husband Paul) and his grandchildren Sienna, Kevin, Emily Kaiden, Carter, Chloe and Sebastian. He was predeceased by his parents Costas and Florendia Photopoulos and his brother Spero.
Demetrius James was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and practiced general dentistry for 50 years, retiring at age 81. He received his D.D.S. degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1968. Prior to Georgetown he served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Throughout his career he was active in many professional dental organizations. Noted among them was his appointment to the Northeast Board of Regional Dental Examiners (NERB). He dedicated many years to Donated Dental Services of Rhode Island and 20 years to serving the residents of the Little Sisters of the Poor home in Pawtucket. Demetrius James was an active member of the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cranston.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 10am until 11am in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI, where the Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Burial will be private.
