Demetra Lambros Obituary

Demetra Pliakas Lambros, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Providence, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ioannis and Efrosini (Korkanou) Pliakas. Demetra was the devoted wife of the late Nicholas Lambros, with whom she shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.

A proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Demetra was a lifelong fan of NCAA basketball. She dedicated nearly forty years of her life to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in the Providence School Department. Her passion for education and community service was also evident in her role as a delegate to the Rhode Island Constitutional Convention from 1964 to 1969.

A faithful and active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cranston, Demetra was deeply rooted in her faith. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Marco Island, Florida, where they enjoyed many happy years and forged lasting friendships. Demetra and Nicholas were also avid travelers, exploring new places and cultures together.

Demetra was the cherished mother of Nicholas A. Lambros and his wife, Joanna, of Cranston. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Nicholas D. and Christopher P. Lambros, and she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Demetra Nikki Lambros. She was also preceded in death by her dear brother, Dr. Nicholas Pliakas. She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Sheila Pliakas of Cumberland, RI, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Demetra leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and kindness that will be forever remembered by all who knew her.

Her funeral will begin Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8:45am from the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Funeral Service at 10am in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston. Burial will follow at North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITATION will take place Friday, Aug. 16, from 4pm until 7pm in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
