Charles H. Garabedian “Harpo”, 88, of Smithfield, RI, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Sally (Kibarian) Garabedian. Charles was the son of the late Harootiun and Arossiag (Nalbandian) Garabedian.
Charles is also survived by his children, Leslie Garabedian, Janine Quinn (Jim), Harry Garabedian (Kristen) and Charles N. Garabedian, Esq. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cory, Humberto, Jimmy, Dillon, Patrick, Veronica, Megan and Emma, great grandchildren, Alyza and Aurelia, his siblings Aram Garabedian, Maro Dionisopoulos, and the late Helen Mikitarian. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, including Fotini Dionisopoulos with whom he shared a special bond.
He was a loving father, grandfather and friend who was cherished and loved by so many people. He was often found at his grandchildren’s sporting events supporting and cheering them on. Born into the Thirties, Charles would go on to excel as a Linebacker at Mount Pleasant H.S. His coach praised him for intestinal fortitude. As an adult, Charles’ determination to provide took him between Providence, Boston, New York and earlier out west to the old Tropicana. He enjoyed Saratoga, Rockingham, Narragansett and Lincoln Downs, played golf at Triggs, read three newspapers a day, and stressed exercise and education. For decades, he would be up at the crack of each dawn speed-walking Lincoln Woods. In 1974, he won a significant decision before the R.I. Supreme Court. (Burrillville Racing Association v. His visitation will be held Thursday, April 13th, 4-7 PM at “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service Friday at 11:00 AM in Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 402 Broadway, Providence, RI 02909. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
