Charles F. Bentz (Sonny), 82, of Providence, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Joan (H’mura) Bentz for 62 years. Born in Providence on October 7, 1943, he was a son of the late Charles and Rita (Nelson) Bentz.
Charles was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, who honorably served his country from 1962 to 1968. During his enlistment, he was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Charles was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins and enjoyed listening to classic rock music from the 1960s and 1970s. He also loved to sit in his favorite chair and watch television.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Beloved daughter Heather DeAngelis and her husband Michael, and his son Michael Bentz. His loving grandchildren: Jarek Bentz and his wife Dorcas, his granddaughter Jenna Bentz, and two great grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late John “Jack” Bentz.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 18, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM, with a Funeral Home Service at 10 AM at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. Military honors and burial will follow at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Affairs.
