Carmine A. DeTomasis, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Hope Health Hospice Inpatient Center. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Sheldon) DeTomasis for 54 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Luigi and Lucia (Conte) DeTomasis.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five children; Carmine D. DeTomasis and wife Megin and their children Isabella, Alexander and Harrison. Daughter Gina A. DeTomasis, daughter Kimberly A. DeTomasis and her children Arianna, Christian, Noella and Tyler, daughter Christine A. DeTomasis and husband William Johnson and their children Hannah and Sarah, daughter Maria B. DeTomasis and husband Anthony Foglio and their children Brittany and Emily. He was the brother of the late Pasco DeTomasis and Esther Nappi and is survived by one niece, Carol Mangiarelli.
Carmine was born and raised in Providence, RI. He attended the Atwells Avenue School, America Street School, Kenyon Street School, Nathaniel Green Junior High School, and graduated from Central High School in 1952. He was a graduate of the last class of the Rhode Island College of Pharmacy in 1956.
He co-owned and operated Prime Drug in Providence from 1966 through 2008.
He married his wife, Beth, in 1969 in the Episcopal Church and they had five children now all adults and college graduates. They attended Trinity Episcopal Church as a family every Sunday from 1970-1996, he was a member of the vestry there, and their five children were all baptized and confirmed there. The family are now parishioners of Grace Church in Providence, where Carmine worked as a docent from 2010 to 2017.
Carmine’s wishes were to spend the rest of his life that the Lord gave him with his wife, children and grandchildren in his home, where the family has resided for 49 years, and due to the love of his family, his wishes were fulfilled.
He was loved and will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30 from “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston with a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church 300 Westminster Street Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITATION Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at “WOODLAWN”.
