Carmen Transito Oliden

Carmen Transito Oliden Zeña, age 98, formerly of the Grace Church Apartments, Providence, passed away with her family at her side, Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Pawtucket Falls Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Born April 1, 1927, in Pimentel, Chiclayo, Peru, she was daughter of the late Antero Oliden and Elba Rosa Zeña. She is survived by 3 of her 12 brothers and sisters Merle, Norma and Rosaura Oliden Zena, all in Peru.

She was known and appreciated for cooking her Peruvian recipes, also for baking delicious cakes, alfajores and making her famous toffee’s which she always shared with family and friends.

Her grandson Brandon from Florida, remembered how his friends always asked him if grandma was still baking alfajores or making the candies they enjoyed and missed so much.

A devoted catholic, while she lived in Lima Peru, went to mass every sunday and always attended the catholic processions, especially the one for Lord of the Miracles.

Mama Carmen used to make a drink in Peru called Macerado, and while living in Florida always made another drink from her native Chiclayo named chicha de jora. She was a loving and loyal friend, always remembering everybody’s names and birthdays. Loved by many she will be greatly missed.

She was the mother of Luis A. Bernal Oliden, Alida M. Bernal Oliden, Jaime A. Bernal Oliden, Juan C. Fhon Oliden and his wife Maria Fhon, and the late Maria Luisa Fhon; the grandmother of Ricardo A. Bernal, Enrique Bernal, Kelly D. Fhon, Kendra Fhon, Kara L. Fhon, Brandon A. Martinez and his spouse Genesis Calo, and Bruce E. Martinez; the great grandmother of Dayana Bernal, Luana Bernal, Luca Martinez and Matteo Martinez.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, July 17, at 10am, in St. John the Baptist Church, 60 Quincy Ave., Pawtucket. Friends will be received at church before the Mass from 9am until 10am.
