CSM Raymond W. Funaro (Ret.), USA, age 80, passed away at home Thursday, October 19, 2023. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Scotti) Funaro.
Raymond was actively involved in numerous social, philanthropic, and religious organizations over the course of his lifetime. His service to the Rhode Island Army National Guard spanned over three decades, first with the 1207th Transportation Company and later with the 119th MPs. He was a lector at Saint Bartholomew Church, where he also was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Hope Council of the Knights of Columbus, and served as Scoutmaster for several years for Boy Scout Troop 56. He was a member of the Smithfield Lodge of Elks and President of the Santa Maria di Prata Society.
Ray was the brother of Anthony Funaro, Marilyn (the late Robert) DiStefano, and the late Richard Funaro. He was also the loving uncle of Gregory Funaro (MiNa Chung), Michael Funaro (Trina), Melanie DiStefano (Brandon Santos) and Jessica DiStefano Fadly (Oliver) and great-uncle of Cassandra Funaro, Taejo Chung-Brcak, and Madeline Fadly.
His funeral will begin Monday, Oct. 30, at 8:30am from the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Bartholomew Church, Laurel Hill Ave., Providence. Military honors and burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2pm until 5pm, in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home.
