Benedicta R. Javid, better known as “Nanay Beni”, 73, of Cranston, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the loving mother of Aurita Babalato, spouse Elvin Babalato, Charito Lizarda, Valeriano Lizarda, Allan Lizarda, spouse Mary Grace Lizarda and the late Maria Quiamco.
Born and raised in Sariaya, Quezon Philippines, Beni was the daughter of the late Victoriano B. Javid and Narcisa R. Javid.
After marrying, Beni relocated to Muntinlupa City, where, after having her children, became a huge part at her local parish, where she sang in the choir every Wednesday afternoon and even started a community rosary prayer group in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Beni loved singing as much as she loved tending to her garden.
Upon her arrival in Rhode Island, Beni continued to grow her own flower and vegetable garden every summer which she used to prepare meals for her children and, eventually, for her neighbors as well. Her green thumb, a gift that she harnessed in the farm back in the Philippines, gave Beni’s cooking the go-to, sought-after meal for family occasions and community celebrations. She was an exceptional cook, just one of her talents that further endeared her to the hearts of those who knew her.
During her “slow” days, one could often find her playing Bingo at the Warwick Mall.
In addition to her children, Beni is survived by nine grandchildren: Nathaniel, Desserae, Isabella, Justine, Jaden, Riam, Alfred, Judd, and Aldrich, and soon-to-be great-grandchild Kaiya.
She was also the sister of Sabina, Eduardo, Carina, Alfonso, Crisostomo, Darwin, and the late Claudia, Fidela, Luisito, and Severino.
Beni’s jolly disposition, quick-witted humor, caring nature, and infectious laugh will forever be missed.
Her funeral will begin at 8:45 am on Saturday, February 22, at "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary's Church, Cranston. Visitation will be on Friday, February 21, from 4:00 –7:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
