Barry Caito Obituary

Barry L. Caito, of Cranston, RI, formerly of Citrus Springs, FL, passed away peacefully. Born in Providence, he was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Donahue) Caito and the cherished son of the late Thomas and Helen (Lindemann) Caito of Cranston.

He is survived by his three children, Michael Caito and his wife Dina of Foster, RI, Christine Harris and her husband James of Warwick, and Amelia Caito of Cranston. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Samantha (Harris) Pikul and her husband Jacob, Kaleigh Harris, Maia Caito, Devin Caito, Laila Shaw, Aidan Shaw, Nadia Shaw, and Gianna Caito as well as two great-grandchildren, Marleigh and Zoey June Pikul. Barry is also survived by his two sisters, Helen K. Martini of North Kingstown and Jane M. Brown of Cranston.

A proud veteran, Barry served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1961 in Alaska and Wisconsin, after graduating from La Salle Academy in Providence. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years to the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1991.

Barry was an avid fisherman, shooter, carpenter and hobbyist. He served as the President of the Narragansett Gun Club where he often shot skeet and trap and was an active member of several local fishing and hunting organizations. His love for the water led his family to vacation in Maine every summer, where he fell in love with sailing and formed lifelong friendships at Linekin Bay. For years he plied the waters around Prudence and Patience Islands in his Starcraft, live-lining menhaden in a quest for bluefish and striped bass. He was also a freshwater angler, having made trips as far as Yellowstone National Park in Montana, in search of rainbow trout.

After retirement, Barry and Helen moved to Florida, returning to their long-time home in the Eden Park neighborhood in Cranston during the summers. They continued to travel, making several trips across England and Italy. Barry was devout in his Catholic faith, serving as a lector and Eucharistic minister both in Florida and Cranston.

Barry will be remembered for his big personality, booming presence, and deep love for God, his country, and his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

His funeral will begin at 8:45am Friday, July 19, at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church, Garden Hills, Cranston, with burial following at St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5pm until 7pm in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are greatly appreciated to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
