Barbara Ann Tagliaferri, A loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Born in Providence she was a daughter of the late John and Rose (Groccia) Sturiale. Barbara was deeply devoted to her family and her Catholic faith. Married, for 58 years to Robert, her husband, she lived her married life with great love and commitment. As a young mother, she was a dedicated homemaker and stay-at-home mom, raising three children, Robin, Robert, and Paul.
Barbara had an extraordinary love for her grandchildren, Olivia, Nicholas, Alicia, Jake, and Jaxon, participating in their personal and academic milestones with great affection. Barbara had a generous heart; she never failed to supply a resource to her family when they were in need.
Barbara worked for 35 years as the Textbook Manager at Johnson & Wales University Bookstore, where her presence was greatly valued by coworkers and student/practicum staff. Over the years, she served the needs of countless students, university department heads, and professors. For decades, she worked alongside her supervisor, Pasquale, with great dedication and attention to detail.
Barbara’s commitment to her Catholic faith was unwavering. She was an advocate for Catholic education, and in the 1970s and early 1980s, was active in special events and fundraising initiatives for St. Mary’s School in Cranston. Additionally, Barbara served on numerous Catholic committees and women’s groups, contributing her many talents to important social and spiritual initiatives.
Barbara had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary, St. Ann, St. Jude, St. Rita of Cascia, and her Guardian Angel. She was a devoted parishioner of Holy Apostles Church, and along with her husband, Robert, was a founding member of the parish.
Raised in the Federal Hill and Mount Pleasant sections of Providence, Barbara attended Nathaniel Green Middle School and Mount Pleasant High School. Barbara leaves behind a devoted sister, Antonina, and brother-in-law, Dan, who loved and admired her greatly.
Additionally, Barbara had a great love for her daughters-in-law, Julie and Sadie, her grandson-in-law, Brian, and her future grandson-in-law, Austin.
Barbara will be remembered for her great love of fine things, home furnishings, and collectibles. She will have a place in the hearts of her family members and friends, and the many conversations with loved ones will be cherished beyond words.
Her funeral and visitation will be held on Monday, November 15 at 9:00 AM from "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Chrisitan Burial at 11 AM in Holy Apostles Church, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
