Barbara A. (Desjardins) Baedeker, 88, of Cranston, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Raymond H. Baedeker.
Born June 13, 1934, in Providence, she was the daughter of the late J. David and Mary Ellen (Gallivan) Desjardins.
Barbara had a great love for her family, her home, and her church. She and Ray were married on September 15, 1956, in Saint Mark Church in Cranston. They served for many years as co-chairs of the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal for the parish and were also long-time eucharistic ministers.
Barbara and Ray loved to travel, especially enjoying cruises to tropical destinations.
Very talented in all types of needlework and crafts, Barbara taught needlework classes in the Cranston adult education program and at several local yarn stores. She also organized and led a knitting and crochet group called Crafters for Life at Saint Mark Church and a similar group at the Auburn Branch of the Cranston Public Library. Many of the items produced by the group members were donated to charity.
She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Theodore Petit of Bellingham, MA, and her brother, David F. Desjardins of Cranston.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 10 am in St. Mark’s Church, Garden Court, Cranston. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday morning from 8:15 am until 9:15 am in the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston.
