Born June 13, 1934, in Providence, she was the daughter of the late J. David and Mary Ellen (Gallivan) Desjardins.

Barbara had a great love for her family, her home, and her church. She and Ray were married on September 15, 1956, in Saint Mark Church in Cranston. They served for many years as co-chairs of the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal for the parish and were also long-time eucharistic ministers.

She also organized and led a knitting and crochet group called Crafters for Life at Saint Mark Church and a similar group at the Auburn Branch of the Cranston Public Library. Many of the items produced by the group members were donated to charity.
