Armando Pires

Armando Pires, 82, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn “Kitty” (Minuto) Pires.

Born in Central Falls on May 13, 1944, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria (Neves) Pires.

Following his honorable service in the U.S. Navy, Armando dedicated his career to law enforcement, serving 28 years with the Providence County Sheriff’s Department (now the Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department). During his distinguished tenure, he held the rank of Sergeant and served as the department’s first training officer. He worked diligently to build a robust training program.  To continue to build his experience and knowledge he attended numerous training programs, including various armorer schools, as well as a program sponsored by the FBI for local law enforcement. Following his retirement from the department, he continued to use his expertise working in security at Bally’s Casino.

Armando was widely known for his mischievous smile, quick wit, and ready laugh.  A practical joke was always a distinct possibility. In retirement, he treasured going on adventures with Kitty and his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones, but held a particularly soft spot for his grandchildren. When he wasn’t visiting with family, Armando could inevitably be found watching old Westerns at maximum volume.

In recent years, even as health challenges impacted him, his protective nature never wavered. A constant worrier in the most loving way, he checked in often to ensure his family was doing well, always eager for updates on their lives and immensely proud of their accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Tracy Pires, Armand Pires and his wife April, and Shawn Pires and his wife Wendy; his stepchildren: Angela Cambio, Christopher Troccoli, Michelle Mercurio and her husband Jesse; and his ten cherished grandchildren: Armando, Olivia, Sophia, Alex, Ty, Mitchell, Stella, Luca, Gabrielle, and Leila.

He was the dear brother of Susanne Cournoyer, and the late Antonio Pires, Jr., David Pires, and Anna Pires.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 28, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. His funeral will begin on Monday, June 29, at 8:45 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Raymond’s Church, Providence. Military honors and burial will follow at North Burial Ground, Providence. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
