Anna F. (DiDonato) DeRita, 93, of Hope, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with vascular dementia. Born in Providence on Dec. 24, 1929, she was the beloved daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Silvestri) DiDonato. She was the wife of the late Alfred DeRita who passed on May 14, 1989.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Maria Ferreira and her husband David, and her grandchildren, Alyssa and Andrew. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Anna worked for many years as an office manager and bookkeeper for Warwick Country Club and a few other employers before retiring to her favorite “job” of taking care of her two grandchildren. She was always happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren. Anna loved to read, do puzzles, and play gin rummy. She never missed a yard sale. She loved dogs and had several over the course of her life. In her youth, she played piano and was a talented artist who designed her own clothes. Anna was everyone’s “go-to” mom throughout her life. She was a remarkably strong woman who was witty and smart, supportive, and always kind.
Her funeral will begin at 9AM Tuesday, May 23, at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Immaculate Conception Church, Garden Hills Dr., Cranston. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery. VISITATION will be held Tuesday morning from 8AM until 9AM at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home.
