Alfred Toselli, MD Obituary

Alfred Toselli, MD of Providence, RI and formerly of Jamestown, RI died on September 18, 2024. He was the devoted husband of the late Anne Constance (Lules) Toselli for 60 years. He was the son of the late Richard and Anna (DeLellis) Toselli. He is survived by his son Richard M. Toselli, MD and his wife Carole (Ventetuolo) Toselli, MD and his beloved grandchildren, Marissa A. Toselli (Philip Finnance), Ella A. Toselli and Nicholas A. Toselli. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren. He is the brother of the late Jennie (Toselli) Radoccia and the late Clementina (Toselli) McNeil.

Alfred was born in Providence and is a graduate of Classical High School and Providence College. He attended medical school at the University of Bologna in Italy. He completed his internship at St. Joseph Hospital and residency in pediatrics at Rhode Island Hospital. After his residency, he formed Pediatric Associates, Inc., the first pediatric clinical group practice in the state of Rhode Island. He served as Chief of Pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 10 years and was on the staff of St. Joseph Hospital, Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, Women and Infants Hospital and Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.

Alfred was proud of his professional career and the many accolades he received in his 45 years of practice, including being appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Brown University Medical School and the president of the RI chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics from 1986-1988. He enjoyed every day that he spent caring for children.

Alfred will be remembered for his love for his family, his fondness for the home he built in Jamestown and the many memories that he and his family shared on the island. He will also be remembered for his devotion to the Catholic church and his cherished Italian heritage. He was the co-founder and first president of the RI Bologna University Medical Association and was active in Italian-American medical affairs, for which he was awarded a star of Italian Solidarity with the rank of a Cavaliere by the President of Italy in 1974.

Fondly known by his grandchildren as Papa, he was greatly loved by his family and will be dearly missed.
