Alana Lynn Burke, of Ladson, SC, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 21, with her loving children by her side. She was 71.
She was born in Rhode Island and lived there most of her life. In her early years, she was a professional ballet dancer with the State Ballet of Rhode Island. Alana attended Boston Conservatory of Music, where she studied ballet and traveled abroad. Alana later attended Providence College, earning her Bachelor of Science degree. The majority of her career was spent working for the City of Warwick and the State of Rhode Island. She was also involved in numerous campaigns and stood by what she believed in. Upon moving to South Carolina, she worked at the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Summerville Dream, as well as offering time to her church. Alana was an incredible woman, who impacted everyone she met.
She was a strong spirit with a gentle, soft-spoken soul whose children were her number one priority. She will be remembered for her thoughtful, giving nature. She loved to garden, cook, bake, spend time with family and friends, and take long walks in the park with her dogs.
Alana is predeceased by her parents, Stephen and L. Joan. Bouris. She will be terribly missed by her son, Brendan Burke and his wife, Heather; her daughter, Heather Burke Smith; and her grandchildren, Zoey and Brayden. She is also survived by her siblings, Nicholas Bouris and his wife Karen; Carol Rothemich and her husband Steven; Heidi Bouris; and Jason Bouris and his wife Karen.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 1, from 11:30am until 12:30pm in the "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Memorial Service to begin at 12:30pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
