Adel Banoub Obituary

Adel Loutfy Banoub, 82, of Providence, RI passed away peacefully and in the loving arms of his family on November 8th.

Adel was born on February 11,1942 in Damanhour Egypt to Loutfy and Amira Gabriel. His parents and big sister, Nadia, doted upon him as the baby of the family. He grew up with a large extended family and loved his cousins like brothers and sisters.

After graduating with his bachelor’s degree from the Agriculture College of Alexandria University, Egypt, Adel left Egypt seeking adventure in Europe.  After visiting several countries, he landed in England where he met and married his wife, Eileen Joy (Priestley) Banoub.  After their children, Alexandra and Matthew were born, Adel and Joy immigrated from England and settled in Providence, RI.

Adel spent most of his career at the Woonsocket Wastewater Treatment Plant working his way from a chemist to the plant superintendent.  He was a published author of technical articles, and the plant was recognized with multiple awards during his leadership.

After his retirement, Adel spent much of his time in Clearwater, Florida in the company of his sister and brother in-law Nadia and Fayek, and beloved cousins.  He loved to sit by the pool or play card games, although gentle teasing was his favorite sport.

Adel was a deeply loved husband, father and grandfather who loved his family fiercely in return.  If he hadn’t heard from you in a few days, he would lovingly chastise you that he “hadn’t heard from you in a long time”.

Adel is survived by his wife, Eileen Joy Banoub; and their children: Alexandra Brooks and her husband, Keith Brooks; and Matthew Banoub and his wife Natasha Banoub; his five grandchildren: Alexandria Van Wormer and her partner Carrie Collins, Luke Shirey, Marcus Banoub, Sarah Shirey and Joshua Banoub; his sister and brother-in-law: Nadia and Fayek Barsoom; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 14th at St. Mary & St. Mena Coptic Orthodox Church, 2433 Scituate Ave., Cranston. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, 200 Armistice Blvd, Pawtucket. Family and friends are invited to his VISITATION on Wednesday, November 13th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston.
